On 18 September, ETH Zurich will welcome more than 25,000 students for the Autumn Semester, according to provisional figures. Enrolment at the Bachelor’s level has risen for the first time since the pandemic.

Social scientists at ETH Zurich studied how students’ social networks and mental health changed as a result of coronavirus lockdown measures. They found that although anxiety decreased, feelings of stress and loneliness rose. A strong social network was able to buffer this effect, however.

So the Housing Office of University and ETH Zurich is delighted when private living space is opened up to students. The example of ETH alumnus Roland H?nni shows that this can be rewarding for the landlord, too. He and his wife have taken not one, but two students into their home.
