“Dance of the elements” at the 2014 Polyball
The 2014 edition of the Polyball, the annual student ball, proved a great success. Guests partied into the early hours of the morning, but there was no rest for the organisers afterwards – for them it was time for the big clean-up.
Guests eagerly took to the dancefloor at Saturday’s Polyball, which featured 20 different live acts in 18 rooms. With its smart dress code – evening wear for the ladies and suits or dress coats for the men – the Polyball is seen as a glamorous highlight in Zurich’s nightlife scene. The event has been an integral part of the city’s tradition for over 130 years.
There was a varied range of entertainment on offer, with the Pik10 dance orchestra, a rousing live performance from Mario Ferrini & Terra Mia, bands Klischée and Jordans Drive, the invariably captivating St. Moritz dance and salon orchestra and many more acts making sure that guests were having a good time. From jazz and salsa to blues and funk – the 2014 Polyball provided something for everyone.
Alternative programme for non-dancers
There were also plenty of other entertaining activities available for those who preferred not to dance. The 2014 Polyball took its guests on a journey through the world of the elements with a cabaret programme, a tombola, a casino, a cinema, a midnight show and a whole host of culinary delights.
“We are delighted that everything went well,” said Patrizia Pestalozzi, a media officer from the Kosta Foundation, which organises the Polyball. Now only a few traces remain from Saturday’s event: “We got changed at half past five on Sunday morning and immediately got to work on cleaning up,” said Patrizia. “After all, ETH has to carry on with its normal operations.”
