Extending your stay

Project mobility students must follow a specific procedure if they need to extend the project duration.

Deadline

The extension request must be submitted in Mobility-Online ideally at least four weeks before the original end date.

Limitation

The maximum duration of all mobility studies combined is 12 months (365 days) and cannot be extended under any circumstances (regulation of ETH Zurich and the migration authorities).

Procedure

Start several weeks before the current end of your stay.

Send an email to which includes your exact new planned end date. Wait for an email notification that the formal extension request function is open in Mobility-?Online, then follow the process outlined there and submit your extension request.

Once your extension request is approved, you will receive two separate emails: 1. the new confirmation of acceptance and 2. the confirmation letter to extend your residence permit with the authorities.
