Learning and Teaching Fair 2018
New event format
This year the first Learning and Teaching Fair on Wednesday, 14 November 2018 took place at ETH Zurich. An event to showcase teaching which grew out of the Innovedum event. It united almost 200 faculty members, project leaders and edcuational developers from all departements. The idea of the event is not only to present different approaches to learning and teaching, but also to provide an environment where reflection about effectivness and challenges is most welcome.
Presentations
Starting a round of presentations, Prof. Andreas Vaterlaus, Vice-Rector for Curriculum Development, opened up the event by giving insights into the teaching commission and how successful innovedum proposals are written. He was followed by Prof. J?rn Loviscach, Professor of Technical Mathematics and Computer Engineering at the Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences. In his keynote speech, he talked about how digital technology can be distracting in the classroom. He recommended to stay flexible and introduce promising learning technology stepwise. Prof. Sarah Springman, rector at ETH, then talked about our VUCA world, where volatility, uncertainty, complexity and ambiguity increasingly dominate. She emphasized that education needs to adapt in order to support students better when coping in such an environment.
Among the presenters were 7 students, who introduced the teaching projects they had submitted within the framework of Student Innovedum 2018. The students involved in Student Innovedum received certificates for their valuable contributions.

Exhibition
After the presentations an exhibition of teaching projects was presented. Each participant was given an exhibition guide and a journal of the fair's projects.
