Michelle Grant named Australian Advance Award winner
World Food System Center Education Director Michelle Grant was presented with the Advance Award for Food & Agriculture by the Advance organization of the Australian Government. Throughout her career, Michelle has been committed to educating and cultivating young leaders.
The Advance Awards celebrates Australians living abroad who demonstrate significant global impact in their industry. Michelle joined the World Food System Center in December 2011 as the founding Executive Director, a position she held until October 2017. During this time, she led the establishment and growth of the Center, including securing funding and broad stakeholder support to continue into a second phase of work (2016-?2020). After handing over the position, she continues at the Center as Education Director.
In her current and previous roles, she has designed and implemented new university education programs on sustainability and food systems in Europe, Latin America, Asia and Africa - training nearly a thousand graduates and young professionals and helping them to build the knowledge and skills needed to lead positive change in the world.
The awards were presented at a gala dinner in Sydney in October 2019. Michelle addressed the audience of 650 with a message of the importance of collaboration across all boundaries and about how food is at the center of many of today’s global challenges such as poverty, obesity, and climate change.
