A serological longitudinal study on the immune response to COVID-19 infections
The viral disease COVID-19 is ubiquitous and has been affecting every one of us for a few weeks now. ETH Zurich offers you the opportunity to voluntarily participate in a COVID-19 study.
An ETH team under the scientific leadership of Prof. Dr. med. Markus Stoffel and Prof. Dr. Susanne E. Ulbrich as well as the medical leadership of Prof. Dr. med. J?rg Goldhahn, wants to utilize the expertise and scientific resources available within ETH and make a contribution in the current epidemic. Therefore, we are starting a longitudinal scientific study on COVID-19 at the ETH.
We are looking for study participants who are employees or students of ETHZ and are at least 18 years old.
People who cannot participate:
- who are older than 64 years at the start of the study.
- who are in quarantine or in self-isolation.
- who suffer either from an acutely diagnosed COVID-19 infection or symptoms of respiratory tract infections, such as coughing, fever (>38°C), breathing difficulties.
or persons who
- receive continuous steroid, chemo or immunotherapy.
- are undergoing cancer treatment.
- suffer from a severe autoimmune disease.
Aim of the study: We want to investigate immune responses to COVID-19 and other respiratory infec-tions over the course of one year and answer key questions regarding this disease.
Duration of the study: The study will start on 27 April 2020 and will take about 12 months, with 5 to 8 study visits and a short monthly electronic questionnaire to be filled out by each participant. The time required per study visit is approx. 10 to 15 minutes. At each study visit, a study questionnaire will be filled out and two tubes (2x8ml) of blood will be drawn. You will receive all further information on the exact procedure with the study information and consent form, which will be sent to you after your registration.
If you decide to participate in this study, please fill out and sign the last two pages of the "Study Information and Consent Form" and bring it to your appointment.
All your data will be kept strictly confidential. Despite the general gain in knowledge, there is no medical benefit for the study participants. No compensation for expenses will be paid either. If you would like to participate in the study, and the above-mentioned criteria apply to you, please register as soon as possible.
If you have medical questions, please contact Prof. Dr. med. J?rg Goldhahn: or consult the study staff on the day of blood collection.
If you no longer meet the above-mentioned criteria for participation in the study before a test date, please contact us immediately at the same telephone number. In case of a telephone contact we will register your data. If you are not interested in participating in the study, your data will be deleted immediately.
