Coaching Mindset
Our goal is to establish coaching as a mindset for learning, conducting research and working together as a university community at ETH.
Within the context of leadership and personnel development at ETH, we define coaching as
- a solution oriented dialogue
- in which one person (coach) helps the other (coachee) to develop her/his own solutions, and
- in which they explore ideas together
The person taking on the role of a coach does not have to be an expert in the subject being discussed. We also acknowledge that there are different coaching approaches, such as:
- Solution-focused Coaching*
- Collegial coaching in groups
- Coaching as part of a leadership role*
- Professional coaching services**
At ETH, a coaching mentality is an integral part of our social and leadership competencies and our values:
- Responsibility
- Ingenuity
- Openness
- Respect
- Inclusion
- Empowerment
*These coaching approaches refer to the fact that there is not one expert, who has a longtime experience and competency to coach, but that we can learn how to coach others and thus help them to achieve goals and unfold their full potential.
**For professors, team leaders and employees/scientists with supervision tasks
Support for developing a coaching mindset
We offer a variety of tools and workshops that support ETH employees in developing a coaching mindset in their daily work. Our focus is on promoting the personal and professional development of our employees without training them to become professional coaches.
