Let’s talk molecular factories
The NCCR Molecular Systems Engineering invites you to two public events in Basel in October 2015.
Molecular sciences, art, religion and politics – these topics will be discussed on 22 October 2015 at 7.20 pm at the second "Basar Molekular", a live-radio talk at Unternehmen Mitte in Basel with four well-known guests: Anita Fetz, Council of States member representing Basel-Stadt since 2003, Felix Gmür, the bishop of Basel, who leads the largest Swiss diocese since 2011, Stefan Gubser, TV- and theater-actor, best known for his role as "Kommissar” Reto Flückiger in the Swiss episodes of the Sunday-night TV-favourite "Tatort", and Daniel J. Müller, Professor for Biophysics at ETH Zurich (D-BSSE) and Co-Director of the NCCR Molecular Systems Engineering.
The interdisciplinary research project Molecular Systems Engineering is headed by the University of Basel and ETH Zurich and aims to engineer synthetic molecular factories that can be used in medical diagnosis, therapy and treatment to improve our health and for the production of chemical substances. "Basar Molekular. Der Wissens Talk" is an ethics-event of the NCCR Molecular Systems Engineering.
The SeminBar with its regular seminars at the bar is also open to the public, bringing new know-how on molecular systems engineering to researchers and the interested public alike. Prof. Dr. Andreas Plückthun, Director at the Department of Biochemistry at the University of Zurich, will talk on 28 October at 6 pm about "Influencing cells with man-made proteins”. Afterwards, starting at 9 pm, students will present the first international “Oktoberfest”. On Thursday 26 November, Dr. Philippe Marlière, founder of Synthetic- and Xeno-Biology, will talk about entrepreneurship. His talk entitled “Accept No Limits” will definitely be worthwhile for anyone interested in creating their own start-up company.
