Fees to increase slightly in autumn
Over the last ten years, the Zurich Academic Sports Association (ASVZ) has adapted and almost doubled its range of services in response to increasing demand. This is why the semester fees for students, as well as the annual fees for employees and alumni, have now been adjusted and slightly increased.
Over the last ten years, the ASVZ has significantly expanded its services in response to the growing number of visitors and rise in demand, increasing the number of sports and classes on offer and developing its infrastructure. There are now 134 sports instead of 85, while the number of instructor-led classes has doubled from 300 to 600 per week. Several facilities have been opened or expanded.
The ASVZ’s income has not kept pace with this growth, however, and the expansion has had a financial impact on the association. In response to this, the ASVZ Board and the management of the Zurich universities have now decided to moderately increase fees from autumn 2017.
Students will pay CHF 30 per semester beginning in the autumn semester; from 1 September 2017, university employees will pay CHF 210 per year rather than CHF 180, and alumni will pay CHF 560 rather than CHF 500 for their annual membership. Students on MAS further education courses are now also eligible to join the ASVZ for CHF 300 per year.
The number of visitors to the ASVZ has more than doubled in the last ten years due to the admission of the Zürcher Fachhochschule in 2010 and the increasing numbers of students at all universities. Students are also playing more sport than ever before, meaning that they use the ASVZ more often and increasing the demand for a varied and comprehensive range of services. Fees were last increased for students in 2006, and for university employees and alumni in 2010.
