Ready in an emergency?
Fortunately, ETH Zurich has so far been spared serious acts of violence. Should this happen, however, ETH members must be alerted as quickly as possible. For this purpose, the university uses a special tool, which will be tested soon.
In the event of a serious act of violence on campus, ETH Zurich will alert its members via the information and alerting tool (IAT). This tool communicates via e-mail, landline and mobile phone (SMS). The latter requires that a current mobile phone number has been registered under www.adressen.ethz.ch. “We ask all ETH members to note their number here. Reachability is essential in an emergency”, says Adrian Meier, Head of Security in the Safety, Health and Environment Department.
A test to be carried out on 26 October 2017 is the first large-scale check of whether the IAT is functioning properly. During the test, all students and staff will be contacted and asked to give their feedback.
The Safety, Security, Health and Environment Department invites all ETH members to take part. All participants will be eligible for a prize in the draw.
