New Head of the Academic Services
Dr. Hermann Lehner is appointed new head of the Academic Services. He takes over from Dr. Dieter Wüest on July 1, 2020, who has served in this important position for 15 years and has provided invaluable service to ETH Zurich.
Dr. Hermann Lehner studied compu?ter science at ETH Zurich and re?ceived his doctorate from ETH Zu?rich in 2011. During his studies, he was involved in student activities at various levels: He was president of both the student association of computer science and the student associations’ board. Further, he was engaged in the boards of VSETH, ASVZ and the Academic Association of Scientific Staff of computer sciences. After completing his doctorate, he joined Incentage AG, where he was initially a Senior Software Engineer and then team leader of the Development Department.
He returned to the Department of Computer Science at the ETH in 2016, and developed the innovative learning platform ?Code Expert” for authentic online testing of open programming questions. For this, he put together a team that has built the platform from a prototype to a productive service within ETH. Students from almost all departments now use this service. He became the study coordinator for computer science in 2017 and was promoted to Senior Scientist (Education) in 2019. and gives various lectures in this function in the service teaching of computer science.
?In today's fast-moving information society, it is crucial to offer future-proof services while preserving proven, existing values. Constantly growing numbers of employees and students require clever solutions in order to continue to offer a service at the highest level. I am very much looking forward to the upcoming tasks!? says Lehner. He will take office on July 1, 2020, with a transition period in the second quarter of 2020, during which he will already familiarise himself with the management of the Academic Services.

After 15 years, Dieter Wüest is pleased to hand over the leadership of the Academic Services: ?Thanks to the support of the excellent team, I have always found the tasks in the Academic Services to be a great enrichment. But I am also happy that I can now hand over the management to competent hands and that I will gain new personal freedom as a result?.
After a total of 34 years at ETH Zurich, he would like to take up new challenges. The form in which his broad overview and his deep insight will be available for ETH Zurich is currently under discussion.
