Reducing the pace of growth at ETH

ETH Zurich has experienced significant growth over the past several years, and the university's long-term financial commitments have grown in tandem. Over the next few years, ETH will need to reduce its recent growth in order to ensure that the university can continue fulfilling its core missions of teaching, research and knowledge transfer with the funds that are expected to be available. We take a look at what this means in concrete terms.
The ETH Library extends open-access funding

As of now, the ETH library will cover open-access fees for all corresponding author articles by members of ETH Zurich.

The ETH Library in the main builing remains open. In addition, the Architecture and Civil Engineering Library opens as well. All other locations are closed. Our digital offers and services are available to you as usual.
Townhall series: mental fitness and excellent leadership

The focus was again on the well-being of ETH members in the third part of the townhall series led by Julia Dannath on 23 February 2021. Mental fitness was the main issue of the virtual event, during which the ALEA Award was also presented and the three nominees were recognised for their progressive leadership at ETH.
Minor changes to the coronavirus master plan

Following the Federal Council’s decision on Wednesday, the Executive Board has approved a new coronavirus master plan for the university, effective 1 March 2021. The ETH Library and the Graphische Sammlung will be open, along with the Main Building, and now also the HIL building on H?nggerberg campus. ?
Making professorships fit for the future

Professorships are one of the focal points of the rETHink project. But what does the professorship of the future look like? Workstream 2 of rETHink is responsible for finding out, and they completed a comprehensive analysis of this question last year. Project focus groups drew attention to autonomy – both on an academic and an organisational level – as a vitally important aspect of professorships at the university.
“Point” – the ETH community’s digital village square

Digital meeting point, flea market and events calendar – the newly launched ETH community platform “Point” is all this and more. The goal of the platform is to bring ETH members together across team boundaries and hierarchies, and also to anchor the issue of sustainability within the community.

Postponement of the “togETHer” staff party

Every two years, the ETH Zurich community comes together and takes part in the “together” staff party. Last year's event was shifted to this summer due to the coronavirus pandemic. Unfortunately, the decision has been taken to postpone the event yet another year. The next edition of “together” is now scheduled to take place in August 2022.
Barrier-free ETH – things are moving forward

The first meeting of the “Barrier-Free at ETH Zurich” steering committee took place in mid-January, and the leaders of the 14 sub-projects in the categories “Construction”, “Technology” and “Organisation” have begun to put together their teams and plan the next steps.
