Are you looking for creative ways to communicate your research? Learn how to find metaphors and narratives to create analog and digital interactives for the public. This practice-based course involves creating working prototypes or models of your activity in our makerspace and requires some individual work in between course dates.

Module 1

  • Cultural context and societal relevance of creative science communication
  • How to engage your audience – Creating a mind-map of tools and methods
  • Sharing outreach experience, e.g., collaborations with artists, designing interactives for science fairs and scientainment activities in museums

Module 2

  • Developing an engaging story about your research
  • Storyboard : adding visual and aesthetic metaphors
  • 3D Prototyping / Sketching out interactive idea either analog or digital

Module 3

  • Presentation of prototype and feedback in plenum
  • Refining of prototype and developing further ideas
  • Discussion and literature of best practice in creative science communication

Please answer the following questions in your letter of motivation:

  • Why do you want to take this class?
  • Why do you think hands-on, interactive activities are relevant for science communication?
  • What topic would you like to turn into a compelling story using analog or digital interactive activities?
  • How would you use the skills learned in the course?
  • Are you planning to take part in the Scientifica 2026 and if so, with which project?
  • Are you planning other exhibitions, events, etc., and if so, which ones?

We will allocate 12 places to the applicants with the most convincing letters of motivation.

Please only register for the course (all three modules) if you really intend to participate; otherwise, you will deprive someone else of a place.
