Engineering and Systems
The Engineering and Systems department is ETH Zurich's engineering centre for building technology systems, building automation, laboratory technology, energy supply, workshop technology and campus sustainability.
Main Services
We provide a first-class infrastructure for top-level research. In the area of planning, construction and operation of infrastructure and buildings, Engineering and Systems works closely with other departments such as Real Estate Management, 必博官网,必博体育 Services, SSHE, Facility Services, other administrative departments and academic units.
- Procurement of media (electricity, district heating, gas, etc.)
- Conceptual/strategic infrastructure development on the campus areas of ETH Zurich
- Technical support and advice to all academic units and other departments of ETH Zurich in teaching, research, knowledge transfer and administration
- Planning and management of
mechanical and electronic locking systems - Promotion of digitalisation in the infrastructure of ETH Zurich (keywords: Building Automation and Control Network BACnet or Building Information Modelling BIM)
- Management of the conception process of technical infrastructures - support in procurement, implementation and acceptance as well as in operation
- Introduction of innovative technologies in building services systems including control, regulation and automation
- Contact and coordination point for topics related to ETH workshops
- Continuation of the path to CO2 reduction in energy supply and energy use in accordance with the strategies of the federal government (keyword: Netto-Null) and ETH Zurich
- Coordination office for all construction and operational guidelines at ETH Zurich
Photovoltaics at ETH
At ETH Zurich, photovoltaics is not just a field of research; the university has been operating solar plants to produce its own renewable energy for over 20 years. Total production in 2023 amounted to 853 MWh. The Engineering and Systems department is responsible for the strategic planning of ETH's photovoltaic systems. The current solar power production of the systems on the H?nggerberg campus is shown below.
