Honours and prizes

Nicolas Gruber, Professor for Environmental Physics at the Department of Environmental Systems Science (D-USYS) at ETH Zurich, has been awarded the Roger Revelle Medal by the American Geophysical Union (AGU).

Professor Torsten Hoefler (D-INFK), Head of the Scalable Parallel Computing Laboratory at the Department of Computer Science, has been awarded the prestigious Max Planck-Humboldt Medal for his research in the field of computer science. Congratulations!

Irena Hajnsek, Professor of Earth Observation and Remote Sensing at the ETH-Department of Civil, Environmental and Geomatic Engineering, has received an honorary doctorate from the University of Oslo. The award was presented to her on Monday at the university¡¯s annual ceremony. Congratulations!

Alessio Figalli and Mikaela Iacobelli, Professors of Mathematics at the Department of Mathematics, have been selected as members of the Institute for Advanced Study for the academic year 2024-25.

Alexander Barnes, Professor of Solid State Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) Spectroscopy, and Chih-Jen Shih, Professor of Technical Chemistry, receive Consolidator Grants funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation.

Postdoctoral researcher Dr. Alan Pacheco, working at the Institute of Microbiology of ETH Zurich, has been awarded a Branco Weiss Fellowship, which is granted by ETH Zurich for outstanding postdoctoral researchers. He can now pursue his research for up to five years at an institute of his choice anywhere in the world.

Professor Kay Axhausen received the IATBR Lifetime Achievement Award for his fundamental and sustained contributions to travel behaviour research and his influence on transportists through writing, teaching, service and nurturing of younger professionals.
