Maximum flexibility
At the beginning of the new semester, following a five-month construction period, the restaurant in the CAB building has reopened its doors under the name of “food&lab”. The restaurant will now not only serve food, but will also be available as a place of work and an events venue.
“The planning for the new restaurant is a highly successful joint effort,” says Marcel Zurbuchen, ETH Officer for the Coordination of Partner Companies. The catering concept and room layout have also incorporated the ideas and spatial requirements of both the students and the Department of Computer Science. The result is a multifunctional concept that makes good use of the guest area at all times while providing an additional events venue. Zurbuchen explains that the food served couples the trend towards international fare that can also be observed in the mass catering sector, with the possibility of eating in or ordering a take-away.
A meeting point throughout the entire day
The restaurant is open all day and student workstations are available daily from 7.00 a.m. to 9.30 p.m. For anyone wanting a coffee outside the company’s opening hours, a self-service coffee machine is available. In addition to this, “food&lab” is also home to a lounge, which serves as a meeting point, and meeting rooms available for reservation.
Following the renovation, the catering in the former chemistry buildings has been brought up to date. The former bistro in the CHN building opened for business again in February 2018 as the “2-Grad-Bistro” and “is once again hugely popular,” according to Marcel Zurbuchen.
