With its “Digital Platform,” ETH Zurich launches an interactive stage on which visitors can playfully reflect on digital transformation and its societal effects.

Ethical Map

The first presentation of the Digital Platform familiarized visitors with a topic that is still new to many people in healthcare. Data Ethics in Healthcare is an interactive map tracing the data ethics in field of health research. This rendition of the Digital Platform communicates ethical principles and the legal questions that surround data usage in healthcare systems. In an interactive space visitors learned about the principles of responsible data processing, how medical data can be used, and what rights and obligations are associated with it.

"Ethics do not prevent progress, but contribute to meaningful progress," says Effy Vayena, Professor of Biomedicine and Health at ETH Zurich. Vayena developed the ethical map for the Digital Platform. "The public debate is important, because even tomorrow our personal data could be of interest to research," she says.

Understand Relationships

Built-in microprocessors and sensors in the digital platform activate when a visitors steps onto various points on the platform. As soon as two people move at the same time on the platform the interactive elements light up. A large projection shows how two areas connect. In this way, visitors become part of an interactive infographic and can understand its relationships.
